Lilies of the Field

"Be not deceived, Wormwood, our cause is never more in jeopardy than when a human, no longer desiring but still intending to do our Enemy’s will, looks round upon a universe in which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys."

"He tells us not to be surprised when we suffer, but most of us act shocked. He tells us that suffering is a gift, but most of us act like it utterly undermines His love for us. One of the goals of grasping providence is that it will enable us to make a good interpretation of God’s ways towards us. Don’t be confused about your life today. God has told you His intentions: to display His great love to the world, to work things for your good. His providence is never contrary to His promises."

"Oh Emmanuel, will you guide my way?

Did you see, but do you understand how far I fell?”

I Will Wait - Bombadil

"Turn around and believe that the good news that we are loved is better than we ever dared hope, and that to believe in that good news, to live out of it and toward it, to be in love with that good news, is of all glad things in this world the gladdest thing of all. Amen, and come Lord Jesus."

"Just come as you are
When you leave you will be changed
Everyday is a gift, everyday is a gift
And it’s all slipping away”

Amen.

New York City - Among Savages

I am especially thankful for my mom this year.  After a year of many ups and downs, she has been my steady rock these days.  As I’ve transitioned to this new world of New York City and the Bowery Mission, she has not wavered or grown tired in listening to me process and cry and rejoice and question.  She keeps pointing me to truth.  Watching women who are coping with absent mothers and abusive mothers, or being that themselves, I am humbled at what God has provided me with in my family.  I’m thankful that He is revealing to me the blessing of my family.
I wish I could be with her and my sisters today, but I’m thankful that the Lord has abundantly blessed me with my family, and that I can know they aren’t going anywhere.
"I cannot tell you how much I owe to the solemn word of my good mother." - C.H. Spurgeon
